The target audience of the Pirate Girls: In Service to the King series is young adult girls. The books touch on a variety of topics that are extremely relevant to teens and preteens today (purity, family tension, peer pressure, etc...) and frame them from a Biblical point of view. My hope is that the reader will see their own experiences reflected in the series, and understand how God intends to use both the mountains and the valleys in His plan for their lives (Romans 8:28, James 1:2-3).

The inspiration came from an 8-year-old pirate-themed birthday party. I was also inspired to write the book sensing a lack of Christian adventure novels in the young adult market. At the time I was writing Mission: Green Island, most if not all popular book series revolve around wizards, werewolves, vampires, and demi-gods. I wanted to write an exciting Christian series that could compete with these secular themes.

Yes, the Pirate Girls: In Service to the King series are Christian books. The novels quote extensively from the Bible, the ultimate authority when it comes to knowledge about God and His forgiveness. Stories from the Bible are referenced or re-enacted series. Mission: Green Island has a companion workbook that can be used to explore Bible related content more thoroughly. The workbook also contains “Personal Questions for Reflection” to help the reader apply the Biblical truths to their lives. While the name of the King is not explicitly stated in order to appeal to a wider audience, Christians will instantly recognize Him as Jesus.

While the overall theme of the books is about entering an exciting adventure with the King of kings, each book has an underlying theme which reflects our developing relationship with the Lord.
